FAQ
What is 36 - Hypersona?
It is my debut album released under the 36 alias.
Can I hear samples of the release?
There are samples available on various places on the internet (including
the 36 myspace
page), but the best thing to do is just download the whole release for
yourself and listen. If it is something that you enjoy, then please
consider buying the cd version, which has the maximum quality sound
and full artwork/packaging.
Why should I buy the CD if you've released the entire album
on MP3 for free?
Because in the digital age, it is nice to still have something physical
to own and touch. MP3 is a brilliant format and has made life easier
for all of us, but in the end, it is just data. If you want the complete
and definite version of the album, with full quality sound, digipak
packaging and artwork, which is printed by two of the best printing/manufacturing
houses in the UK, then the CD is the only option.
Is this a professionally pressed CD or is it a CDR?
The CD is replicated from an original glass master and professionally
manufactured by Pure
Music in the UK. All print parts for the digipak were finished by
Delga. These are
two of the most respected manufacturers in Europe and ensure a high
quality product. I personally don't believe CDR is an acceptable format
for music.
Will the album ever be pressed onto vinyl?
Unlikely, but not completely out of the question. It depends on sales
of the CD release. I would like to do a very limited 2x12" version,
perhaps with an exclusive bonus track, but the reality is that vinyl
is a dying medium and manufacturing costs are extremely expensive, even
for limited runs.
Why not just sell the release in record stores or online?
Initially, I was going to go down the usual artist-label-distributor-record
store route (which is why there is a barcode on the back of the case),
but I now feel as though this model is no longer relevant in today's
digital market. Instead, I believe that artists should take control
of their own music and let consumers listen to it without treating them
like a criminal. My idea is to let people hear the music in its entirety
and then let them decide if it is something they would like to support.
How is this different from the recent Radiohead/NIN releases?
The main difference is that I am an independent artist, without
the huge publicity/pr teams that these artists can demand. I actually
believe that Radiohead were quite ingenious in allowing their last album
to be purchased for a price set by consumers, but in reality, what they
got was a crappy 160kbps rip, which is pretty useless for any serious
listener. They also charged full price for the actual CD version later.
My idea is to supply the highest quality MP3 version of the album for
free and then let the listener decide the price for the actual retail
CD if they decide they want it.
What do you mean "the listener decides the price"?
Put simply, if you want the CD, then you decide how much you want to
pay for it. There is no minimum price, so you can effectively get it
for free if you so desire. All I ask is if you do decide that it is
worth nothing, please tell me why you feel this way in the Paypal checkout
page.
How much should I pay?
That is completely up to you. Just pay whatever you think the album
is worth basically. As of writing, the most someone has paid is £15
and the least is 1p.
So what's the catch?
The only "catch" is that if you decide to buy the
CD, then you have to pay the postage and packaging to get it to you.
This is set to a fixed £2 for anywhere in the world. Alas, despite
the fact I would love to provide this for free, the reality is that
packaging and shipping costs are expensive now, especially when shipping
internationally. The fixed cost makes things equal for everyone.
How do I pay?
Paypal is the only
option for payment. Luckily, it is also one of the most widely used
on the internet and accepts all major debit/credit cards as well as
direct bank payments securely. You can pay using this system without
having to register for a paypal account. Just select your own amount
on the initial payment screen and then follow the instructions.
How long will it take before you despatch the CD?
Between 1-5 working days, depending on how many orders come through.
It is effectively a one-man operation, but I will try to get the album
sent to you as soon as humanly possible. All items are sent first class
or through airmail, so expect the usual delivery time from the UK to
your particular country.
Have you released music on other labels?
Yes, but not in this style. I continue to run a vinyl-only
label that has operated for over 2 years now, but this is aimed squarely
at the dancefloor and both run anonymously and without any fuss. The
importance should be on the music itself, not the ego of the artist
or label who release it.
How can I contact you? Do you accept demos?
I can be contacted via email or if
you prefer the smell of paper, you can also send me a letter via the
following address: 3six Recordings, PO BOX 1317, Bradford, BD5 5AX,
United Kingdom.
Demos can also be sent to this address, but please note that a response
isn't guaranteed.
Anything else?
Try playing the album at around 88% of the standard speed, through a
pitch shift plugin (such as this
one) for your music player. Most tracks were made to work at various
playback speeds...
